Both Lovato and Lutes publicly described themselves as married after the wedding. Lovato and Lutes met during a studio songwriting session in January 2022. Lovato and Lutes subsequently began a romantic relationship, but the supplied evidence does not establish a more precise dating start than approximately 2022. Lutes proposed to Lovato in December 2023, after they had reportedly dated for nearly two years. As of an interview published on November 19, 2025, Lovato continued to refer to Lutes as her husband.
