Le Parisien reports that Trintignant and Benchetrit married on 11 May 1997, although the exact day is supplied editorially rather than stated in Benchetrit's quoted words. Benchetrit said that he and Trintignant had separated before the filming discussed in his October 2003 interview, while later accounts place the separation only broadly in late 2002 or 2003. According to Benchetrit, he and Trintignant never divorced. The marriage appears to have ended on 1 August 2003 with Trintignant's death, because Benchetrit said they had never divorced.
